I was asked by British Cycling to provide a write up for their newsletter about Head Judging the 1st two stops of the national series for 2022
NASS Shepton Mallet England UK
After a COVID break it was time to organise NASS festival again. Working alongside Vision Nine and Four One Four Skateparks I help to organise the rider lists, contest formats, and sort the judges out. We have a street contest, park contest and mini ramp with amateur and pro, also female pro park had equal prize money to the male. I head judged all events for BMX. Being a bit more involved in everything makes this event feel like a sense of achievement when it’s over.
Eurobike FMBA Dirt Contest Frankfurt Germany
For 2022 Eurobike invested heavily in putting on a Gold level FMBA dirt jumping event. I was judging with 3 others well renowned judges.
Red Bull District Ride FMBA Nuremberg Germany
Red Bull District is only held ever 3/4 years. This is such a unique vent as the course is split up into 5 sections and we have 7 judges. We split off into teams and judge different sections of the course each. Most of the city of Nuremberg is closed down so the riders can ride down the streets and hit all the jumps and features. It’s a very creative event and with that comes some good riding and a great show.
UCI BMX Freestyle Park, FISE Brussels Belgium
The next stop of the UCI World Series with FISE was held at the Urban Sessions in Brussels Belgium. Thai was the first time being held here. As usual FISE had amateur junior veteran with professional and amateur, a long weekend of judging for us but another successful event in the books!

Crankworx Innsbruck Austria
After two years of judging this slopestyle event from home, it was finally time to go back and do it in person. It’s always such a great event with amazing mountain view’s. Crankworx also holds a speed style contest we judge where riders do tricks to take time off the runs. We have 4 scoring judges and one head judge for this event.
UCI BMX Freestyle Park, FISE Montpellier France
FISE Montpellier was back! After a few years off with COVID it was time to have the biggest action sports event in the world take place along the famous river in Montpellier France. We are there to judge so many events over the week.
Park, Street, Mini ramp, Amatuer Junior and Pro and both male and female in all categories.
It really is a test of your concentration and attention as the days are long, Starting around 10 am and finishing sometimes at 12am!
Red Bull Featured Test Event
I have been talking with Red Bull pre COVID about doing a new style of event. After a few meetings and brain storms a test event was going to be held in North Wales. It was to trial the format and how fast we could get the scores out during a best trick contest. The event was very successful and its very satisfying to see work you put in during meetings come to life. I look forward to the “real” event coming soon!

British Cycling Backyard Jam Cardiff UK
Round 2 of the British Cycling Backyard Jam series was in Cardiff Wales. Another great turnout of Pros and amateurs. I was head judge for all of the park contests. The Pro section has a bunch of jumpboxs all in a row all tightly packed together. This requires fast detailed note making in a short time. This was by far the biggest challenge here
X Games Chiba Tokyo Japan
This was my first time being asked to Head Judge an X Games. It was the first year it had been held in Tokyo Japan. I also helped Thrill One with organising the rider invite list. The contest is always a whirlwind in the judging booth as the scores need to go live in around 30 seconds. This doesn’t leave a lot of room for deliberation after the event but with trusted long time judges we could make quick call fast and accurately
British Cycling Backyard Jam Asylum UK
The first round of the Backyard Jam British Cycling Contestes was at The Asylum skatepark in Nottingham. I was head judge for all of the park contests. A great turnout of riders varid from Pro, Amatuer under 15s,under 12s and younger both male female. There is a big appetite for events like this in UK right now. Hopefully the rest of the events they have planned go as well.
British Cycling Judging Video
I was asked to a small interview for British cycling to explain what we are looking as Judges of a BMX Freestyle Park Contest
British Cycling Tokyo Olympics Experience
I was asked by British Cycling to share my experience Head Judging the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Its nice to be able to give people an insight to the work we did there and hopefully inspire people.
Battle Of Hastings UK
COVID travel restrictions meant this years BOH was a European only event. The atmosphere in Hastings at the Source Park for Battle Of Hastings was still incredible. Sold out crowds all banging the walls for the riders. Achim organises such a good contest format which is a team event with the riders also making videos for us to judge.
FISE Junior Hot Wheels Video Competition
Every year FISE organise and manage a junior online video contest for all different types of riding, ages and gender. They get videos from USA to UK and Japan and South America. It’s great to see so many riders that cannot make it contest have an opportunity to showcase their riding. I judge the videos for each category and then have follow up emails with the other judges to arrange the ranking.
