This was another brand new event for the FMBA calendar. Red Bull held back to back events in different countries and i was judging both. this event was a uge success, the course was very unique and had a huge crowd all around .
Red Bull Copenride Denmark
This was a brand new event for the FMBA calendar. Held in Copenhagen Denmark Red Bull put on a slopestyle diamond event. The event was hit with some harsh weather with the wind but after lots of different meetings with TV, Red Bull and the riders the event went on!

2020 Tokyo Olympic Games BMX Freestyle
It was finally here. After 6 years of planning the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games were being held in Japan after a year delay due to COVID. It was not the usual Olympics as they had no crowds. The atmosphere was created by plenty of staff and volunteers cheering the athletes along.
I was Head Judge for this event with 5 other scoring judges. We had to judge Male and Female seeding events first then the next days wa the Finals. both contests were high level and high pressure. i couldnt have been prouder with the team i had and the job we did. So much planning pre event helps so much, Everything from the test event to meetings with TV for the schedule. We dd lots of scoring tests and had spotters to make sure we could every possible part of the large course.
The event was a huge success for the Olympics and for BMX freestyle.
2021 BMX Freestyle UCI Urban World Championships
Hurricane Action Sports and the UCI managed to hold an international event during difficult COVID times with travel and lots of testing. We had to stay in the hotel and only travel to and from the event during event times. With no crowd it wasn’t the usual FISE Montpelier and World Championship atmosphere but it didn’t stop the riders riding hard, it was the last stop to get your country qualified for Tokyo 2020. I was head for this event with 5 other scoring judges.
Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games Test Event
As Head Judge for BMX Freestyle Park for the Tokyo Olympic Games I was asked to attend a test event. This during the height of COVID with little to no travel worldwide. The process to get in and out of Japan was very long and involved staying in Quarantine on arrival and return. We went though everything with the UCI and Tokyo 2020 from how the riders are kept safe to the medal ceremony and timing of runs. It was an amazing experience to help prepare for the main event in August
Crankworx Innsbruck Austria Judging (Online judging)
Crankworx events like many other got postponed or cancelled due to COVID 19. During the lowest levels of the virus they managed to hold a European only event in Innsbruck Austria. With many video calls between myself and the other judges, the live TV production and the scoring system we managed to pull off an amazing achievement of judging an event whilst not even being in the country of the event. We each had a scoring ipad, one screen with the live event being broadcast in real time and another with a Zoom video call with the other judges for discussion. Due to the adaptability and creativeness of Rawmotion the live scoring system and good conversations with the TV company we managed to pull it off without a single problem. It helped having seen the course in the past and judging there before, and also that we all have a lot of experience so could predict any problems we might come across and fix them in the pre event video calls prior.
Video Judging E-FISE
Due to COVID 19 spreading across the world many events got cancelled. FISE and Hurricane decided to hold an online contest. Riders would send in a one minute video for street and park, Amatuer and Professional male and female. This equated to well over 150 videos to be judged for qualification and then the top 12 went to the finals. They would then submit another one minute video for judging. Myself and four other international judges got our results together and discussed digitally what the results should be. I have judged a few video contests before but none as hard as this one.
UCI BMX Freestyle Judging Clinic 2020
This years UCI BMX Freestyle Judging clinic was held in Lisbon Portugal. Due to travel restrictions quite a few nations representatives had to pull out. We carried on with who we had and had a successful weekend. The first days were for Flatland which I helped out with the existing Pro judges. The next few days were the Pro UCI World tour judges where we have continued professional development to improve our judging skills and think of steps to be better as a team and work together with the scene as a group. I also gave them all a test I created and we worked on how we can improve each others judging skills. The last two days were teaching brand new judges the judging method used for UCI park contests.
Crankworx New Zealand Rotorua
This was the first event that was nearly cancelled due the COVID-19 pandemic. It was a bit risky to travel here and back via Hong Kong at the time but we all made the effort carefully and safely. The event was a huge success with the weather on our side and we got all the jobs done. Slopestyle and Speed and Style.
Simple Session 2020 Estonia
The first big contest of the year is always Simple Session in Estonia. They have been doing this for 20 years now so this is a well oiled machine. Everything from the hotel to the food to the rider list and judging set up is really well organised.
Red Bull Uncontained Holland Nijmegen
This experimental event for Red Bull was a huge success. The ramps were huge. No pictures of video will give this justice. There was also a slightly new and different style of judging format which worked really well with the the graphics package. It was live on Red Bull TV and they had a big crowd packed into a huge cold warehouse on the docks of Nijmegen Holland. I was asked to do an interview for live TV with Olympic snowboarder Amy Fuller.
Backyard Jam Final Adrenaline Alley Skatepark
The last and final stop of the Backyard Jam Series was held at Corby Skatepark. This event had amatuer and pro over two days. All of the winners of the previous stops came together in all categories for a final. It was a great way to round off the series which was a great success and seeing the future stars of BMX freestyle in UK
UCI Urban World Championships China
This was possibly the biggest and pressure event of the year. These were the first Olympic spots open to nations who did well. You could feel the pressure from the first day on site. I was very proud of our crew to get this done successfully. We were tested in every phase of the event as the riding was on such a high level with lots of close decisions.
FISE World Series Chengdu China
This was my 7th time in China judging and 5th in Chengdu for the FISE World Series. This was a huge back to back weekend of events to gain some serious Olympic points for Tokyo 2020. As with all FISE stops we judge Amatuer, Junior and Pro with Dirt/Park/Street male and female events. Its always a busy 5 days but the challenge is always welcome and by the last event on the Sunday evening you go home with a huge feeling of accomplishment
British Championships and C1
I was proudly asked to be the Head judge for the first British Cycling Freestyle National Championships. They also held a C1 contest the day before for international riders as well. I also provided the scoring system and delivered the live results right after the contest.
